Electrical Construction & Engineering Course Description
Instruction is based on the National Electric Code, which governs current rules and regulations of the industry. Extensive practical experience is received by actually wiring a new house on school grounds. Other tasks include performing school electrical maintenance and cutting, bending, and installing conduit. The installation and wiring of motors and motor controls are also part of the curriculum. Students become familiar with many of the latest advances in the electrical field such as programmable electronic control systems, fiber optics, and network wiring.

Steve Palese, Instructor
Steve Palese is the Electrical Construction and Engineering instructor at the Academy and is in his 16 th year teaching at Edison . During the 2003-2004 school year, Mr. Palese was nominated for the FCPS Teacher of the Year recognition program. Prior to entering the teaching profession, Mr. Palese served in the United States Navy for seven years. During this time, he worked for the White House Communications Agency and was responsible for advance work for President Ronald Reagan.
Mr. Palese has also owned an electrical contracting firm, Palese Electric, for the past twenty years. He lives in Warrenton , Virginia with his wife, three sons and two dogs.
