The
Dranesville Library Media Center (LMC) has both scheduled
and unscheduled periods during the day. During scheduled
periods,
the teacher and librarian
team together to help students select materials that reflect individual reading
ability,
areas of interest,
or specific research needs. Story-telling/booktalk is done each week with
pre-K through 2nd grades. Student participation is incorporated
into stories on a
regular basis to broaden listening, comprehension, and speaking skills.
Instructional activities for acquiring library and research skills begin
in kindergarten. Each grade level will be involved in
instructional activities that will increase students' knowledge
of the online catalog, computers with CD-ROM research
capabilities, organization
of library materials, and work on the internet, so that
they may become independent users of the LMC.
