Free for Fairfax County Public School students taking this course as a part of their regular school course schedule. If a student is already taking 7 courses and decides to add an online course, a fee of $600 per year-long course will be applied. For out of county students, a tuition fee of $700 per year-long course must be paid at registration.

Description:  

This course is designed to focus on managing resources to achieve personal goals;
making informed consumer choices; creating a living environment that supports the wellbeing of individuals; evaluating types of housing; maintaining a living environment that supports the well-being of self and family; living in a global environment; making decisions related to clothing; maintaining clothing for self and others; planning food choices that meet health needs of individuals and families. In addition, focus is placed on developing a life-management plan; caring for self and others to ensure wellness; building and maintaining constructive interpersonal relationships; building and maintaining strong, functional families; developing strategies for lifelong career planning, coordinating personal and career responsibilities; and establishing a plan for using resources. The basic skills of math, science, and communications will be highlighted when appropriate in the content.

Students successfully completing this course may be eligible to earn a Career and Technical Education Diploma Seal. Students successfully completing this course in conjunction with another one credit course within the same program area will satisfy the sequential elective requirement for the Standard or Modified Standard diploma.
