Course Description
Participants will become familiar with the Microsoft Word screen and basic features. Participants will perform a variety of word processing functions including formatting a document, using spell/grammar check, inserting bulleted and numbered lists, saving and printing. Inserting, formatting and modifying tables will also be covered. Participants will learn to insert and modify images from clipart and the web. The mail merge feature will be introduced. Emphasis will be placed on specific activities that will enhance the participant's ability to meet the state technology competencies.
Participants must attend ALL class sessions and participate fully in all activities. Complete a minimum of 15 hours of out-of-class activities to include activities and review of class handouts and readings. Students should bring two high-density preformatted disks to each class.
Students must participate in completing the class activities and class homework assignments. Students will also submit a culminating activity during Session 5 from an assignment given in class.
In this class participants will:
- Understand basic features of the Microsoft Word program
- Understand basic word processing concepts
- Identify parts of the Word screen
- Demonstrate ability to create, edit, save and open documents
- Enter and modify text
- Format documents using various tools
- Use document checking tools and Word auto features
- Demonstrate ability to move/copy text using a variety of methods
- Use print preview and print
- Insert and modify tables and columns
- Insert and modify images
- Use Word efficiently to produce attractive documents
Prerequisites
Windows Fundamentals or equivalent experience. Participants should have access to Microsoft Word 2000 or higher outside of class in order to complete the required assignments.
TSIP Information
Successful completion of this course will validate the word processing portion of Standards 1-4 of the Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel (TSIP).
