Using Spreadsheets in the Elementary Classroom

Course Description

Validates Integration Technology Standards

In this course, participants learn how to use spreadsheet tools to create calendars, check-off lists, charts, spreadsheets with calculations, and other documents for both instructional use and personal productivity. A major topic of the class is the use of data in a spreadsheet to create a variety of graphs and determine the appropriate type of graph to use. Class activities include creating templates that are adapted for a wide variety of instructional uses as well as incorporating spreadsheet data into word processing documents and presentations. During the course, each participant creates a lesson plan/project which can be used in their classroom.

Prerequisites

Technology in Education: Operation and Integration, Microsoft Office: Fundamentals or AppleWorks: Fundamentals, or equivalent experience; access to a computer with MS Office 2000 (or higher).

Information

Successful completion validates competency in the technology integration skill area (standards 5-8).
