| Reach to Teach With Technology

Course Description
This course will focus on using technology to support the K-6 Reach to Teach curriculum project. Participants in the course will develop techniques and materials for using technology to assist in the delivery of differentiated services in parallel with the curriculum materials provided by FCPS. Participants will work with the basic software found in most elementary classrooms: KidPix, Inspiration, Apple Works/Office, Map Makers Tool Kit, web browser. A lesson plan/project component will be required as this class meets the TSIP Standards 5-8.
Topics Covered
• Revisit the ways to differentiate instruction: process, product, content
• Review software available in the classroom (KidPix, Inspiration, Apple Works/Office, Map Makers Tool Kit, web browser)
• Students will learn to integrate technology into the Model Lessons and Pre-Teaching Assessments found in the Reach to Teach curriculum project
• Students will design a differentiated lesson with integrated technology.
Prerequisites
Participants must have a thorough understanding of the available software and a willingness to use technology to enhance the learning of all students. Participants should have already begun to differentiate instruction in their classroom.
Participants should bring a zip disk to every class
Book and Software Information
Participants will need the Reach To Teach box available at elementary schools. Participants must have AppleWorks or Microsoft Office and access to the additional software listed above to complete assignments. The book -“How to Differentiate Instruction in Mixed-Ability Classrooms” by Carol Ann Tomlinson is optional and available in many school professional libraries
