| Computer Systems Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Course Description
Participants in this course will learn how to troubleshoot a computer system. The file system and file maintenance are discussed. The instructor reviews the file system and discusses hard drive management. Other topics include: Internet browsers, with attention to cache, history, cookies and subscriptions; utility programs including defrag, scan disk, backup and compression; virus scanning software. Hardware topics include printer settings, network settings and power user tips for fine tuning the machine's performance.
Prerequisites
None but participants should be very comfortable and experienced with using the appropriate operating system including the basic file structure. Participants must have a networked computer running Windows 98 or higher available outside of class in order to complete homework assignments.
