Course Description
Through hands-on experience, participants will learn database terminology, purpose and function. The course will include instruction in: terminology, file management, planning and organization of data, creation of a database, and integration. Emphasis will be placed on specific activities that will enhance the participant's ability to meet state technology competencies. Suggestions and activities will also be given to help participants use databases for professional, personal and instructional purposes.
Requirements: Students must attend all five class sessions and participate fully in activities. Completion of approximately 15 hours of out-of-class activity to include projects, review and reading is expected. Participants should bring 2 high-density formatted disks to class.
Topics covered in this class will include:
- Understand basic database terminology and function.
- Plan, create and save an Access database.
- Create, modify and use database tables.
- Create, modify and use database forms
- Create, modify and use database queries.
- Create database reports.
- Integrate Access with other Microsoft applications.
Prerequisites
Windows Fundamentals or equivalent experience and basic experience with using Microsoft Word and Excel.
TSIP Information
Successful completion of this course will validate the database portion of Standards 1-4 of the Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel (TSIP).
