English for Speakers

of Other Languages (ESOL) Courses (For FCPS Students Only)

Note:  Summer ESOL classes are aligned with FCPS language arts, mathematics, and science curricula.

ESOL Courses

ESOL Pre-Biology - ESH3801
ESOL students scheduled for Biology during the 2009-2010 school year may register for this course.  Students engage in intensive listening, speaking, reading and writing while learning the vocabulary, concepts and skills needed to achieve success in Biology.   There is no credit offered for this class.

ESOL Preparation for Algebra - ESH3802
ESOL students scheduled for FAST Math or Algebra 1 Part I may register for this class. This class teaches or reinforces foundational and pre-algebra skills and concepts, and provides additional time to master mathematics skills needed for success in mathematics classes during the 2009-2010 school year.  Students also engage in listening, speaking, reading and writing activities around the content of mathematics.  There is no credit offered for this class.

ESOL Content and Literature Class - ESH3803
ESOL students who will be in Level 1 or 2 during the 2009-2010 school year may register for this class.  Students engage in listening, speaking, reading, and writing English through a thematic language arts and content curriculum.  There is no credit offered for this class. 

Transportation

Transportation to and from base schools is the responsibility of the parent, guardian, or student. Transportation is provided for all FCPS high school students between and or among high schools that combine to provide classes. The summer school principal will provide bus information to students who register by June 23.
