The After-School Teaching Seminar
When
The After-School Teaching Seminar is held once a month during the school year. Cohorts of teachers meet at locations throughout Fairfax County Public Schools for the monthly, two and one-half hour sessions (secondary) and 3 hour sessions (elementary).
What
Seminar sessions provide support and training on topics identified by teachers. The sessions build on teachers’ experiences from other school districts, including:
- Communicating with parents
- Supporting the SOLs
- Differentiating instruction
- Technology integration
In addition, modeling good human relations skills is an integral part of the entire seminar. The instructional emphasis at the elementary level is on language arts and mathematics.
How
Outstanding veteran classroom teachers who have empathy and specialized skills working with adults to lead the seminar. Known as Enriching the Experience coaches, these teachers are paired to lead each cohort group of about 20-30 teachers organized around grade level assignments. |
