GRADE SEVEN

Student Textbooks

The following basal instructional materials have been approved for student use.

1. McLaughlin, Charles W. and Marilyn Thompson. Life Science. New York, New York: Glencoe, 1997.

(One textbook per student)
This comprehensive text explores all aspects of life science. Students explore concepts through reading, hands-on laboratories, mini-labs, and reasoning activities. Connections are made to real-world situations, other subject areas, and careers.

2. Maton, Anthea, et al. Evolution. Upper Saddle River : Prentice Hall, 1997.

(One class set per seventh grade science classroom)
This book provides information about fossils and how they provide a record, although incomplete, of events in Earth's history. It continues with a discussion of the theory of evolution and how variation, adaptation and natural selection cause change within species. The book supports the heredity and diversity strand of the seventh grade environmental science program.

3. Maton, Anthea, et al. Exploring Planet Earth. Upper Saddle River : Prentice Hall, 1997.

(One class set per seventh grade science classroom)
In this book students are introduced to the various structures that make up the Earth and are most important to life. Subtopics include the Earth's atmosphere, oceans, fresh water, mandamuses, and interior. Sections from this book will help students learn more about Earth's most precious natural resource-water.

The three student lab guides issued to students are:

This laserdisc program is a visually based nonprint basal textbook that provides basic information and extends the hands-on aspect of the program. Specific lessons have been referenced in the teacher’s guide for student investigations.

Student Textbooks

(One textbook per student)
This comprehensive text explores all aspects of physical science. Students explore concepts through reading, hands-on laboratories, mini-labs, and reasoning activities. Connections are made to real-world situations, other subject areas, and careers.

(One class set per science classroom)
This student book covers one area of science—the universe. Subtopics include stars and galaxies, the solar system Earth and its moon. This book will support the Earth-moon-sun system unit in the eighth grade science curriculum.
