![]() Procedures, Policies, and Regulations: http://www.fcps.edu/DHR/benefits/leave.htm http://fcpsnet.fcps.edu/it/records/forms/fs7343.pdf The following information has been taken from the Department of Resources benefits web page: Employees assigned a specific number of contract/work days accrue sick leave. You may use sick leave for personal illness or injury and for the care of immediate family members as defined by FCPS. If you are a monthly-paid employee who works 12 months, or a biweekly-paid employee, you earn sick leave at a rate of .0538 per hour for every hour worked. If you are a monthly-paid employee but work less than 12 months, you earn sick leave at a rate of .0632 per hour for every hour worked. If you are transferring from another public school division in Virginia, you may request to have up to 60 days of accumulated sick leave transferred to FCPS. This request must be in writing to the Office of Payroll Management and must be submitted within the 12-month period after separation from the previous school district. FCPS allows less-than-twelve-month employees, instructional staff, and all other employees who work fewer than twelve months each year to use up to three days of sick leave as personal leave. Personal leave not used in one contract/work year is carried over to the next contract/work year as sick leave only. Employees who work a full twelve-month schedule accrue annual leave beginning with thirteen days per year in the first year of service, reaching a maximum of twenty-six days per year after the thirteenth year of service. For each year of service between the first year and the thirteenth year, one additional day of leave is added. For example, in the second year, an employee would accrue fourteen days of annual leave. During your first ten continuous years of twelve-month employment, employees may accumulate up to a maximum of thirty days of annual leave. Beginning in year eleven of continuous twelve-month employment, employees can accumulate up to a maximum of forty days of annual leave. At the beginning of each new fiscal year on July 1, unused annual leave in excess of the limits is converted into sick leave. FCPS provides two types of leaves of absence to help employees meet their personal and professional needs: designated and non-designated. A designated leave of absence is provided for specific purposes, and documentation supporting the leave of absence is required. An employee need not have worked for FCPS for a specified time period prior to requesting this type of leave. An employee may request a designated leave of absence for any of the following reasons: child care, illness, hardship, military active duty, and student teaching, internships, or professional certifications for employees who are obtaining their initial teacher licensures, licenses in a critical field, or professional certifications for non-teaching employees. Non-designated Leave of Absence A non-designated leave of absence is available to employees after five continuous years of working for FCPS. Multiple non-designated leaves of absence may be taken during a career with FCPS. However, eligibility for each successive leave of absence requires five years of active service from the date of returning to active employment from any prior designated or non-designated leave. For additional information or assistance on the types of leaves available, eligibility, and the application process, call the Disability and Leaves Office at 703-750-8564. Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) If employees have been actively employed with FCPS for the previous 12 months, they may be eligible for leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). The entitlement is for 12 weeks of leave during a 12-month period for serious personal illness, the birth or adoption of a child, or placement of a foster child, or the care of a sick spouse, child, or parent. For additional information or assistance, call the Disability and Leaves Office at 703-750-8564. Continuing Medical Benefits during a leave of Absence
