Information on the Mentor / Protege Program

The SBTS Mentor/Protégé Program has been expanded to include SBTS in their first and second year as an SBTS as well as those SBTS who change levels. The role of an SBTS mentor includes the following:

  • To serve as a role model and guide for new SBTS
  • To facilitate understanding of the FCPS structure for new SBTS
  • To assist new SBTS as they help faculty and staff create a vision for integrating technology into curriculum

Requirements of a Mentor

  • Must have recommendation from site project manager or principal
  • Must have completed 1 year as an SBTS
  • Must have demonstrated skill in training teachers or adults
  • Must have an empathy and ability to work with beginning SBTS
  • Must attend all planning and training sessions
    • These sessions will consist of 3 half-day training sessions that will be held at an off-site location. (May be in conjunction with other SBTS meeting dates)

Expectations of a Mentor

  • Must want to serve as a mentor
  • Should be willing to represent FCPS as an SBTS Leader
  • Should understand that, as a SBTS Leader in FCPS, they must commit to the Mentor Program in terms of time and priority, i.e. should be willing to meet or communicate regularly with the protégé
  • Must model exemplary professional attitude at all times

Process for becoming a SBTS Mentor

  • Send email with site location to Peggy.Herndon@fcps.edu indicating your desire to serve as an SBTS mentor
  • Complete the applicant portion of the recommendation form
  • Have your principal complete the principal portion of the recommendation form
  • The principal submits the completed form
  • When the SBTS Management Office receives the form, a visit will be arranged so that personalities, levels, and site locations of the mentor and protégé can be coordinated
