A message from Vicki Herrington, Coordinator, Instructional Technology Training.

The Instructional Technology Training office provides training and support for central instructional initiatives to 160 trainers throughout the district. In order to meet the demands of this large county, the train-the-trainer model is used. School-based technology specialists are trained and provided materials to train teachers at their schools.

We are responsible for writing and revising technology staff development courses. Courses and training are provided to help teachers progress along a continuum. Staff development courses are continuously being evaluated, many fundamental courses are currently being rewritten, and new courses are being created that emphasize good instructional practice using appropriate technologies. Various modes of delivering these courses to teachers are being examined.

This office is responsible for the district's on-line curriculum that is housed in our instructional management system database. The curriculum is aligned with assessments and resources and correlated to state and national standards. Keeping the database updated and current is a major responsibility. We work collaboratively with the curriculum specialists and teachers to develop, identify, enter and edit objectives, assessments and resources for the database. We also work with the Department of Information Technology to deliver products to the schools and to establish policies and procedures for support.

All the efforts of this office focus on the potential of technology and how best to use it to improve on what we already do so well—teaching our children!
