Chemical Technology

Chemical Technology is an excellent computer and calculator based introductory program for students who need additional help with mathematics and reading. Students learn chemistry from the context of real world chemistry--petroleum and energy, resources, water, and health. This introductory chemistry course is hands-on and is based on the American Chemical Society's Chemistry in the Community text.In alternative setting such as Alternative Program Schools and special education centers, four chemistry boxes were created to enable students to conduct appropriate experiments. The experiments were identified and modified by special education and chemistry teachers. Chemicals and other materials in the boxes are refurbished at the end of the year. Self-contained LD classes in regular high schools conduct experiments using material from their chemistry labs.
