Chemistry
In Fairfax County Public Schools, we teach all students chemistry. We offer three different first year chemistry courses: Chemical Technology, Chemistry 1, and Chemistry GT/Honors. In addition, we have two second-year advanced programs, Advanced Placement (AP) Chemistry and International Baccalaureate (IB) Chemistry. The IB program is available at Mount Vernon, Stuart, Marshall, Robinson, Edison, South Lakes, Lee and Annandale High Schools. AP Chemistry is available at the other high schools.
Each of these chemistry courses uses computer and graphing calculator technology to teach students chemistry concepts. The laboratory is an integral component of the chemistry program. Teachers are encouraged to provide additional experiences beyond the required laboratory experiments.
