Rebecca Hinze-Pifer , Planetarium Teacher
The Oakton High School planetarium opened April of 1968. It has a Spitz A3P projection system, with a 30 foot diameter dome, and 76 seats, 56 permanent and 20 folding chairs in a chevron pattern. The planetarium was renovated in during the summer and fall of 1991. The renovation resulted in new carpeting and a panel of slide faders to control AC outlets distributed around the dome. A new sound system was installed in March of 1991.
Rebecca Hinze-Pifer has been the planetarium teacher since September 2005. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002 with degrees in astronomy-physics and computer science.
