Addison
Wesley Quiz Page
There are three interactive Geometry quizzes
on theis site covering terminology, quadrilaterals, triangles,
circles, volume, Pythagorean theorem and similar triangles.
E-Examples
Index NCTM
This is part of the NCTM Illuminations website. It has several
excellent interactive applets. Don't be fooled by the grade bands...there
is more here than what they list under grades 9-12. They list
only 5 applets under grades 9-12, but there are applets in other
grade bands that would be appropriately used in the high school
math classroom, for example, Understanding Congruence and Similarity,
the Pythagorean Theorem and Perimeter, Area and Volume (all can
be found in 6-8).
ENC
Reform in Action
This is the Eisenhower National Clearing House Link list. It is
organized by mathematics subject areas and is more user friendly
than it used to be. It also has "The Digital Dozen"
which are web sites that they have chosen as the best. Choose
"Math Topics", then look under Geometry.
GCSE Answers'
Mathematics Department Menu
Interactive quizzes on Areas of 2-d shapes, Surface Area and Volume
of 3-d shapes, some right triangle Trig.
Geometry
constructions with the Java Sketchpad
This is a series of 6 sketches that are interactive. Reflections,
equilateral triangles, trapezoids and kites are some of the constructions.
There are questions to go with the sketches that the students
can explore by manipulating the diagrams.
Graphing
Vector Calculator- - interactive Java APPLET
A very good demonstration of simple manipulations with vectors.
The vectors can be stretched onto grid points and the resolution
is shown both geometrically and algebraically. Very user friendly
APPLET, but be patient as it loads.
Interactive
Lessons on Transformations
Shows simple translations, reflections and rotations. Can drag
image to change; uses a translation vector that can also be controlled.
Interactive
Euclid's Elements
This contains all of Euclid's elements in the order that they
appear historically. All can be manipulated by the viewer.
Interactive
Geometry Sketches
A collection of APPLETS, most dealing with geometry. The best
ones are on congruent triangles (SSS, SAS, etc) and constructions.
This site is maintained by a teacher in Hong Kong, and he adds
to it on a regular basis. The APPLETS sometimes take a while to
load, so be prepared to wait. Good for Geometry through Precalculus.
Java
Applets for the Math Classroom
This site has about five applets on geometry, with the most useful
one being the line parallel to the base of a triangle. There are
also applets on chords in circles and parallel lines.
Manipula
Math
This is an all purpose site from Japan. The Geometry applets can
be found under the Middle School section. Middle School is not
the same as our Middle School. There are applets on circles, parallel
lines, quadrilaterals etc.
Math Cove
JAVA applets on beginning geometry (angles and triangles) followed
by a really good set of applets on transformations--translations,
reflections and rotations.
Math
for Morons Like Us
This is a Think Quest site (written by students) that has interactive
quizzes on algebra, geometry and precalculus as well as some tutorials.
The quizzes do not have drawings; they are just questions.
Math Forum
Students can find help on any topic by searching
the "Ask Dr. Math" feature, teachers can search the
archives for links and lesson plans, and students can participate
in the Geometry Problem of the Week.
MathsNet
Choose interactive, then choose Cinderella Geometry or JavaSketchpad.
This is very much like the Geometry Sketchpad. There are four
choices: What shape is a...? What is meant by...? Exercises and
investigations. This is a great place for students to interactively
review Geometry vocabulary. There are also
interactive quizzes under Interactions.
Math
On Line by Jim Reed
This is a Canadian site and follows their four main teaching strands:
Number, Patterns and Relations, Shape and Space and Statistics
and Probability. Activities for geometry can be found in the Shape
and Space strand. Mr. Reed is in the process of developing high
school activities, so keep checking this site in the future!
Maths Online
Numeracy Resources
Numeracy Resources is a "for pay" site, but has some
free games that you can use. Two involve rotations and reflections:
Transformation Golf and Post the Shapes. One involves estimating
angles (Splat). There is one more on Interpreting graphs. There
are other activities on the paid site that would be appropriate
for middle and elementary school students.
Polyhedra
Activity
Allows students to manipulate polyhedra with 4, 6, 8, 12 and 20
faces to discover the number of vertices and edges, along with
the names. The applet allows the students to turn the polyhedra,
slow it down, or speed it up.
Project Interactivate
This is an EXCELLENT site...all lessons include some JAVA interactive
exercises, and many topics are covered, such as Transformations,
Angles, Quadrialterals. Each lesson also includes a printable
worksheet that can be used with the applet.
Scalars
and Vectors
An expalantion of scalars and vectors followed by a short interactive
quiz.
Shape
and Space in Geometry
This is an interactive site on shape and space in Geometry. The
space segment has students give plot maps of 3-d shapes and predict
what kinds of shadows 3-d shapes will make. The shapes segments
has an activity that helps students predict the length of a diagonal
of a square.
Spatial
Intelligence Home Page
Go to Tutorials on the Home page. This has tests of the
six different kinds of spatial intelligence. The student must
try to match the test figure with one of five other figures. The
figures are rotated and shown from different viewpoints. When
the solution is shown, the figure that matches the test figure
is rotated to show that they match.
The
Living Mathematics Site
The copycat game is a great interactive visual discrimination
game that would be useful for geometry students who look for patterns
and recognize them while rotating a cube. Look out..you can get
hooked on this one.
Think
Quest Library (Math)
Practice multiple choice questions on various topics. The questions
are very challenging. Feedback is provided. Topics covered: Laws
and Definitions, Polygons, Measurement, Trigonometry, Circles
and Areas. Click on Testing Center.
Unfolding
Polyhedra
This site shows the nets of various polyhedra, and then shows
the net folding up into the solid. It is amazing to watch the
folding and unfolding of the various nets...resembles a flower
blooming in slow motion!
