Calculus
Java APPLETS by Dan Sloughter
There are 16 Java APPLETS that can be used for teaching Calculus.
ENC
Reform in Action
This is the Eisenhower National Clearing House Link list. It is
organized by mathematics subject areas and is more user friendly
than it used to be. It also has "The Digital Dozen"
which are web sites that they have chosen as the best. Choose
"Math Topics", then look under Advanced Mathematics.
Finite
Mathematics and Applied Calculus Resource Page
Tutorials and interactive quizzes covering the following topics:
Average Rate of Change, The Derivative as Rate of Change: A Numerical
Approach , The Derivative as Slope: A Geometric Approach, The
Derivative as a Function: An Algebraic Approach, Limits and Continuity:
Numerical Approach, Limits and Continuity: Graphical Approach,
Limits and Continuity: Algebraic Approach, The Product and Quotient
Rule, The Chain Rule, Derivatives of Logarithmic and Exponential
Functions, Related Rates, and The Indefinite Integral
Graphics
for the Calculus Classroom
Many graphics and animations for
use in the Calculus classroom including: Differentials and differences,
Archimedes approximation of pi, bouncing ball, secants and tangents,
zooming in on a tangent line, etc.
Integration
Applet
Although there is only one applet at this
site, it clearly illustrates finding the area under a curve, using
both rectangles and trapezoids.
Interactive Mathematics
on the Internet
A comprehensive list of APPLETS that can be used for Calculus
and other subjects . Most are divided into three levels of difficulty
and have students give input. There is a nice one on inverse functions
that would be useful in Algebra II.
Karl's
Caluculus Tutor
Although this is not an interactive site, it is a good calculus
tutorial.
Limits
and derivatives APPLETS for Calculus
Allows the student to explore limits from the left, right etc
and also types of continuity. Gives feedback as students provide
answers to questions.
Manipula
Math
Go to Calculus at the bottom of the Home
Page. Many Java APPLETS are available such as the derivative of
exponential, trigonometric and quadratic functions and volumes
of solids of revolution.
Math Exam Help
AP Calculus Practice Math exams. These are
not interactive, but are in printable format and the answers are
available.
Math Forum
Students can find help on any topic by searching
the "Ask Dr. Math" feature, teachers can search the
archives for links and lesson plans, and students can participate
in the Calculus Problem of the Week.
Maths
Online
Choose Gallery on the home page
to find a list of APPLETS on such things as differentiation, integration,
power series, and the Lorentz transformation.
Moving
Man
This is an applet that shows a stick figure walking from home
to school, and plots the graph of the motion at the same time.
It works like the CBL motion detector, but with a stick figure.
It also has more options than the CBL, since velocity and acceleration
vs. time graphs can also be created.
UBC
Calculus Online home page
Choose In Class demonstrations to find interactive Java APPLETS
on functions, derivatives, exponents etc. There are many to be
found under each of the six major topics.
Visual
Calculus
A very good site that includes Precalculus, Limits and Continuity,
Derivatives, Applications of Derivatives, Integration and Applications,
and Sequences and Series. For each of these there are tutorials,
interactive exercises, examples, quizzes and drill problems. Requires
loading a Math view notebook plug in.
XfunctionsXpresso
This is a function grapher with special features that allow the
user to enter an equation like y = kx^2, then animate the graph
to see what happens. It handles all functions and has some other
utilities in the upper right hand corner on a pull down menu such
as parametrics, Riemann sums, Integral curves and Graph 3-D.
