Addison
Wesley Quiz Page
This site contains 21 on line quizzes on
such topics as Integer operations, inequalities, factoring, polynomials
and applications of Rational Functions. Immediate feedback is
given.
Circle
Zap
This is an experiment to test your reflexes and your ability to
use a mouse. It will collect data on how well you did and let
you run an number of trials. After the data is collected, you
can plot and view regression equations on either a graphing calculator
or on the regression plotting page that is listed below.
ENC
Reform in Action
This is the Eisenhower National Clearing House Link list. It is
organized by mathematics subject areas and is more user friendly
than it used to be. It also has "The Digital Dozen"
which are web sites that they have chosen as the best. Choose
"Math Topics", then look under Algebra.
E-Examples
Index NCTM
This is part of the NCTM Illuminations website. It has several
excellent interactive applets. Don't be fooled by the grade bands...there
is more here than what they list under grades 9-12. They list
only 5 applets under grades 9-12, but there are applets in other
grade bands that would be appropriately used in the high school
math classroom, for example, Understanding Distance, Rate and
Time and Understanding Rate of Change. These are found in the
3-5, and 6-8 bands respectively.
ExploreMath
A large site that has new interactive exercises added almost monthly.
Most of the activites are Algebra based and include such things
as Points in the x-y plane, linear equations, graphs and systems,
quadratic equations, graphs and systems, linear programming, conic
sections, inequalities and least squares line of best fit. Be
sure to read the explorations ideas at the top of each applet
to get some ideas of how to use the applet most effectively.
Finite
Mathematics
This is an online course in finite mathematics, but has
two useful interactive exercises for Algebra. One is on the slope
of a line and the other is a self test on graphing inequalities.
GCSE Answers'
Mathematics Department Menu
Easy to follow tutorials on pre algebra through Trig Step by step
problem solutions Good for kids who are absent.
Geometry in Motion
A collection of about 30 APPLETS, most dealing with applications
of conic sections. The vector approach to solving simultaneous
equations is very interesting. Good for Algebra II through Calculus.
Graphing
Linear Equations
A Master's Degree project designed to provide an understanding
of the graphing of linear equations at the Algebra I level. Use
Java applets to learn about ordered pairs, graphing equations,
horizontal lines, vertical lines, slope, equations, finding the
equation of a line, scatter plots, parallel and perpendicular
line, and solving systems.
Graphs
of functions with quiz
APPLETS that are appropriate for Algebra II or Precalculus.
The home page of this site states that "All Others"
may view the lessons, but not the database. Don't let that worry
you, just click on it and you can still have your classes use
the interactive lessons and quizzes. The quizzes are well written
and give immediate feedback. There is even a sample final exam.
This would be a great review either during class or at home.
Interactive
Algebra
Algebra I practice on Equations, Inequalities, Absolute value,
factoring and graphing linear equations. Shows exact steps for
finding solution if needed.
The Integer
Zone
Wait patiently while the enter button loads on the start page!
Practice with integers: factors, multiplication, addition. Good
for pre-algebra or algebra review of integer operations. Might
be of some use when teaching factoring.
Linear
Regression
Input x-y values and the program will plot the points, draw the
line of regression, give the equation and the r value.
Manipula
Math
Choose Middle School Math at the bottom of the page, then
choose Miscellaneous from the next menu, and then choose Staires
from the set of APPLETS. This APPLET allows the student to practice
the concept of slope in two different lessons. Gives the student
immediate feedback. Could be done in a lab situation without a
worksheet.
Math Drill
A site that has drill and practice for elementary students through
elementary algebra. Immediate feedback is provided, and the practice
is incremental in nature.
Math Forum
The Math Forum is a good resource for both teachers and students.
Students can search "Ask Dr. Math" for answers to perplexing
questions, teachers can search the database for links and lesson
plans, and the Problem of the Week is a great program for students
to particpate in and improve their problem solving skills.
Math
for Morons Like Us
This is a Think Quest site (written by students) that has interactive
quizzes on algebra I and II and geometry as well as some tutorials.
The quizzes do not have drawings; they are just questions.
Math
On Line by Jim Reed
This is a Canadian site and follows their four main teaching strands:
Number, Patterns and Relations, Shape and Space and Statistics
and Probability. Activities for algebra can be found in all bands
except Shape and Space. Some of the activities would be appropriate
for Algebra Two. Mr. Reed is in the process of developing high
school activities, so keep checking this site in the future!
Maths
Online
This is a huge site for Algebra and above.
Choose Gallery from the home page to get a list of APPLET topics.
For Algebra, I would recommend Functions and Graphs, Recognizing
functions, Polynomials of the Third Order, Recognizing functions
2 and Quadratic Equations 2. Be sure that you check out the Exercises
that can be found by clicking on the Tool Bar at the top. They
are well written and thought provoking. The Control key lets you
know how you're doing. The solution key gives you the answers.
See lessons section below for some lessons I have written to go
with two of the APPLETS.
Maths
File BBC Education
This is a series of games that are appropriate for Middle School
or for Algebra I. Click on Teachers Pages to see descriptions
of all the games. They are interactive and give students immediate
feedback.
Moving
Man
This is an applet that shows a stick figure walking from home
to school, and plots the graph of the motion at the same time.
It works like the CBL motion detector, but with a stick figure.
It also has more options than the CBL, since velocity and acceleration
vs. time graphs can also be created.
Off
The Wall Math
A very visual, interactive and elementary explanation
of rate, time and distance problems. Students can control all
three variables to see what happens. This one could use a worksheet!
Project Interactivate
This is an EXCELLENT site...all lessons include some JAVA interactive
exercises, and many topics are covered, such as Functions, Linear
Functions and graphs, box plots and histograms. Each lesson also
includes a printable worksheet that can be used with the applet.
Think
Quest Library (Math)
Practice multiple choice questions on various topics. The questions
are very challenging. Feedback is provided. Topics covered: Real
numbers, Equations and Inequalities, Graphs and Functions, Polynomials
and Factoring, Rational Expressions, Irrational and Complex Numbers.
Click on Testing Center.
XfunctionsXpresso
This is a function grapher with special features that allow the
user to enter an equation like y = kx^2, then animate the graph
to see what happens. It handles all functions and has some other
features that are described below the graph and are worth studying.
It has more capabilities than just graphing an equation.
