May, 2008. NAMM, National Association of Music Merchants, has named Fairfax County Public Schools among the "Best Communities for Music Education". James D'Addario, CEO D'Addario & Company, Inc., points out in a letter of congratulations to Dr. Dale:
"A high level of musical education excellence requires a deep commitment by numberous teachers, school and district administrators, school board members, parents, community leaders, and most of all, the students themselves... Numerous studies have confirmed the creative and intellectual development that participation in fine arts provides... Creativity is not limited solely to the arts- it is a vaulable commodity to employers within all businesses. The students that are nurtured within your school[s] will be the future leaders in all industries."

FCPS Secondary School Students Win Regional Scholastic Art Awards

On September 26, 2001 Dr. Daniel Domenech and Fairfax County Public Schools received the Award for Leadership in Arts Instruction from the Virginia Board of Education and the Virginia Commission for the Arts. This award commends Fairfax County Public Schools for "sustained leadership and devotion to elevating the Arts to the highest level, as exemplified by accomplishments that have made an indelible contribution to instruction in the Arts as an essential part of a complete education for children."

The Fine Arts program has also received national recognition by the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities and Arts Education Partnership in their 1999 document entitled Gaining the Arts Advantage: Lessons from School Districts that Value Arts Education. The document addresses some of the best practices used by these school districts for staffing, programming, and resource needs. FCPS is noted for its "well organized community support for arts education, as well as a highly diverse population that recognizes the significance of the arts to education."
