Multicultural Programs

Family Services and Involvement Section (FSIS) provides multicultural outreach services to schools, families, and communities to provide cultural insights on customs, traditions, beliefs, values, and attitudes that might impact interpersonal relationships and student achievement.


Our Clients

Any organization that seeks to gain insight into the cultural variables that affect human interaction can use and benefit from multicultural programs and services. Organizations that have used this resource include:

    • Schools

    • Civic organizations

Our Speakers

Family Services and Involvement Section (FSIS) has a multicultural staff trained in diversity issues, communication, conflict resolution, team building, work/life issues, and parent involvement in education. A variety of cultures, languages, and life experiences are represented. Staff members have lived and studied in many different countries, speak a variety of languages, and bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their presentations.

Our Programs

Multicultural programs are customized to meet the specific needs of the organization and the audience. Cultural teams may be called upon to present panels, in-service training, and parenting instruction, as well as to facilitate cultural dialogue groups. Countries, cultures, and/or regions typically represented include:

    • Africa and the Caribbean
    • Central and South America
    • Europe
    • India and Pakistan
    • Korea
    • Middle East
    • United States
    • Vietnam

Multicultural Panels

Multicultural panels are composed of a group of people who represent various racial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Panel members address how different backgrounds and beliefs relate to interpersonal dynamics in families, schools, communities, and businesses. Panels generally last for 1½ hours, including a question and answer period. Some topics include:

    • Cultural perspectives on child rearing
    • Migration and acculturation experiences
    • Beliefs, values, customs and traditions and how they relate to and impact education
    • Language and communication
    • Gender roles
