Childcare Services for FCPS Functions

Family Services and Involvement Section (FSIS) provides childcare during parent programs at schools and community sites throughout Fairfax County. An important component of these programs is the quality childcare services available to parents who attend.

Our Childcare Providers

Activities

Our Childcare Providers

FSIS provides qualified childcare providers for the children accompanying parents to parenting programs. Childcare providers are hired and trained by the Fairfax County Office for Children and/or FSIS. Childcare for school programs is usually held in SACC rooms of elementary schools, or in other suitable facilities for non-school programs. Our childcare providers meet county employment requirements and receive an orientation covering safe and appropriate childcare procedures.

Activities

Childcare providers are knowledgeable about how children learn and the importance of play. Each provider receives a "Mary Poppins Box" filled with a wide variety of materials and activities designed for use with diverse age groups. In addition, many childcare providers develop and make their own games and activities for use with the children.

Safety Procedures

Childcare providers arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of a program and remain 15 minutes after the program ends in order to set up and clean up the room. Care is taken to ensure that inappropriate materials and equipment are safely out of reach of young children. Parents register their children when they are brought to the childcare room, and each child is given a nametag for identification. Care is taken to observe food allergies and other health restrictions. The minimum ratio of childcare providers to children is 1 to 10.

Monitoring and Evaluation

A client evaluation of child care is completed by the program contact person and returned to FSIS within one week of the program. Childcare providers are periodically observed and monitored by the FSIS childcare provider supervisor.
