FCPS Cable TV (Red Apple Channel 21)
Red Apple Channel 21 of Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) broadcasts television programs on a variety of topics related to parenting, school success, and family learning and involvement. Programs
The following programs were produced in home and school settings with actual families. The programs demonstrate simple activities families can do together to promote a positive home learning environment. The series is a collaboration between (FSIS) and the Department of Information Technology (IT).
- Love of Learning: Families Explore...Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts.
In this four-program series, families will discover that learning not only begins at home, learning continues at home. Home experiences enhance a child's general knowledge, improve social skills, and increase physical coordination. Looking into the lives of four families, viewers will see how schools' language arts, math, science and social studies programs can be supported in the home by participating in fun, easy and time friendly activities.

- Encouraging Words: Language Development from Birth to Age Five
The Encouraging Words series helps families understand the importance of language in the development of literacy skills. Children use oral language skills to learn to read and then use reading skills to advance language. Families will learn that reading and writing are not independent of speaking and listening. It all begins with encouraging words.

- Palabras Alentadoras (Encouraging Words - in Spanish)
Parents and caregivers are a child's first and most important teacher, and, from the day a child is born, he or she is ready to learn. An important part of this early learning stage is language. This two-part series, aimed at Spanish speaking parents, demonstrates how to teach literacy through rhyming, music, movement, playing, talking, storytelling, and reading. Educators share information to help parents understand how important their role is in their child's early literacy development and later success in school. This program will be televised in Spanish.

- Multicultural Parent Panels: A tool to Enhance Cultural Understanding
Deepen your understanding of cultural beliefs, values, and practices by listening to the voices of multicultural parent panelists. This series offeres strategies on how to set up panels as a vehicle to increase cultural awareness and how to make schools more responsive to families of diverse backgrounds.
The two programs in this series are entitled:
- Multicultural Parent Panels in the School Setting
- Raising Children in a Diverse World.
