Middle School Technology Education programs in Fairfax County Public Schools provide active learning situations that allow students to explore technology and related careers. Working in groups of two, students explore different technologies, learn the problem solving process, and become technologically literate. Course activities are designed to integrate math, science and technology. The content covered in all modules reinforces the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) in math, science, language arts, social studies and technology.
High School Technology Education programs in Fairfax County Public Schools include a selection of fifteen courses, which cover a variety of technical subject areas. Examples of some of the courses are as follows: technical drawing, electronics, engineering physics, design and technology, introduction to engineering, research and development, and engineering systems. Most of the program areas have advanced-level classes, which build on the program’s curriculum and allow for in-depth learning. All technology courses involve the integration of math, science, technology, technical presentation, and language skills. Courses are designed to provide students with the needed technical knowledge and dexterity skills to prepare for college-level studies in engineering, science and computer-related majors, or to pursue technical career fields in industry or the government. Industrial technology programs reinforce student learning in critical thinking, problem solving, design, and group dynamic skills. All programs have aligned course content to SOL in math, science, and English.
