Health and Medical Sciences Industry Certifications

Bloodborne Pathogens Students enrolled in the Fire and Emergency Medical Sciences course are eligible to receive this certification from OSHA. http://www.osha.gov/

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Students enrolled in the Fire and Emergency Medical Sciences course are eligible to receive this certification from FEMA. https://www.citizencorps.gov/cert/

CPR Healthcare Provider Students who are enrolled in many Health and Medical Sciences courses including Exploring Health Sciences, Advanced Health Sciences and Fire and Emergency Medical Sciences are eligible to receive this certification from the American Heart Association after successfully completing a written and skills test. EMT-B (Emergency Medical Technician -Basic) Students enrolled in the Fire and Emergency Medical Sciences course are eligible to receive this certification upon successful completion of the course and the passing the Virginia state written and skills exam. http://www.vdh.state.va.us/OEMS/oems_general/aboutus.asp

Hazardous Materials Response Students enrolled in the Fire and Emergency Medical Sciences course are eligible to receive this certification from the U.S. Department of Transportation. http://hazmat.dot.gov/training/training.htm

LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) Students successfully completing the 18 month practical nursing program and passing score on the NCLEX Virginia State Board of Nursing licensing exam. http://www.dhp.state.va.us/nursing/default.htm

NOCTI-Health Care Foundations Students enrolled in the Advanced Health Sciences, Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy 2, and Practical Nursing courses are eligible to test for the Health Care Foundations Skill Standards certification. The National Health Science Career Cluster & the National Consortium on Health Science & Technology Education have partnered with NOCTI to deliver the Health Care Foundation Skill Standards Assessment. The assessment, which is based on nationally recognized industry standards, will provide critical information to students, educators and employers within the health care fields. http://www.nocti.org/StudNCHSTE.cfm

VA Dental Radiography Safety Students enrolled in the Dental Careers 2 course are eligible to receive this certification after passing a state approved written dental radiographic safety exam. http://www.dhp.state.va.us/dentistry/

VA Pharmacy Technician Students successfully completing the pharmacy technician course are eligible to take the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy exam for Pharmacy Technician certification. http://www.dhp.state.va.us/Pharmacy/
