The family and consumer sciences program focuses on the development of management skills needed throughout the life span. The program is committed to empowering students to fulfill individual, family, community, and work roles to achieve a balance in the interaction among these roles in a diverse global society. The relationship between work and family is the unique focus. Instruction in family and consumer sciences programs and courses incorporates and reinforces Virginia Standards of Learning in math, science, English and social studies.
The mission of the family and consumer sciences program is to assist students:
To develop knowledge and skills that support healthy, functioning individuals in family and work roles.
- To develop the knowledge, skills, and ethical behaviors needed for employment success.
- To develop and apply critical thinking skills.
- To enhance self-esteem and the appreciation of self-worth.
