Mountain View Alternative High School’s MVP Day (Mountain View Professional Day) was awarded the Virginia Career Development Association’s Model Career Development Award at the organization’s annual conference in Fredericksburg on March 6, 2008.
Edison Academy information technology students from computer systems technology and Oracle (database design and management) attended Microsoft’s Digi Girlz event in Reston, VA at the Microsoft Technology Center on March 7, 2008. Students had an opportunity to hear from a panel of women who work for Microsoft, saw demonstrations of innovative technologies, and learned about the facts and fiction of Technology myths and future trends in IT.
The Chantilly Academy hosted a health symposium titled “21st Century Careers in Medicine and Health Sciences” for students on March 12. Health professionals representing a variety of areas including pharmacy, biotechnology, and EMT spoke with students about the opportunities available in the healthcare field.
Over 200 teachers, administrators, and support personnel participated in the annual Educators’ Day in the Workplace event. Participants started the day with a presentation from the Chief Executive Officer of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority and completed the experience with a visit to a local business for a firsthand look at career opportunities in Northern Virginia.
A public service announcement (PSA), produced by a West Potomac Academy professional television production student, was featured at the Cinema City International Film Festival March 9 and 10 in Hollywood. The 30-second PSA won the top prize and an all-expenses paid trip to the film festival.
