Special Programs
The ninth annual Tech Adventure Camp for middle school students was held in July at the Chantilly and Edison Academies. Three hundred students participated in a two-week summer camp filled with activities allowing them to explore various career fields while using technology applications. During the camp, students were able to create and play their own video game, build and operate a mobile robot, manipulate photos using Photoshop software, discuss internet safety in an “online society,” create foods from around the world in a commercial culinary kitchen, and much more.

Internship Opportunities
Fairfax County’s Department of Vehicle Services (DVS) has begun its 9th year as an internship host to Fairfax County Public Schools’ (FCPS) automotive students. The department will offer 20 internship positions this year with the internship lasting from January 2008-May 2008. Interested students will visit the four DVS work sites on a field trip and hear presentations at their school by a DVS Supervisor on the career opportunities in DVS. Depending on job performance, students are also given the opportunity to obtain full-time work in the summer after graduation and even a permanent position with the county.

Fairfax County Public Schools’ Office of Information Technology (IT) has also kicked off its ninth
year of providing internship opportunities for FCPS students. The IT internship positions are open to junior and senior students currently attending FCPS high schools and academies. Interested students may attend an IT internship job fair on November 1, 2007, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., at Marshall High School. There, students will have a chance to conduct informational interviews with representatives from offices in IT.
