Student Experiences
Five teams of Fairfax Academy students traveled to Richmond for the Virginia SkillsUSA competition April 27 and 28. They were entered in four events: Advertising Design, 3-D Animation, Web Design and Television Production – Live. The two teams from the TV production program placed 2nd and 3rd in their state competition. This is the first time the TV production program had competed at the state level. For the TV production – Live competition students had four hours to produce a one-minute video exemplifying the SkillsUSA theme, “Champions at Work”. During the allotted time, the two-person teams were required to plan, storyboard, script, shoot, drop audio, edit and master a copy of the video which was then viewed by a group of judges.
Fairfax Academy’s Web Design team placed 4th in the state, representing their Graphic Imaging & Design class.
Industry Certifications
A Marshall Academy student in the Network Administration II course became the first female student in the history of Marshall Academy to earn the MCSE-Engineering license in Microsoft Network Engineering. To obtain this license, a student must pass seven industry certification tests. Most network engineers do not obtain this license until well into their careers, where experience and knowledge adds to the license prep.
