Dates and Times
Wednesday, July 9 to Thursday, August 7
7:30 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.

General Information
Eligible high school students may take a face-to-face course and one online campus course. However, students and parents should understand that these courses are extremely rigorous. Registration for more than one course during the summer session is not recommended. Students must pay tuition for both courses. Tuition reduction is available for only one course.

General education courses are described in the Standard Course Offerings brochure available at all high schools and follow the FCPS Programs of Study. All general education courses (except English 9, Computer Science, Spanish 1, and Spanish 2) are offered for new or repeat credit. Students are required to attend the entire course. All courses will be offered at indicated sites contingent on sufficient enrollment, staffing, and budget approval. See SOL testing eligibility details.

Selected special education courses are offered in a small group special education setting for students with disabilities who need additional support. These courses will be offered only at Lake Braddock Secondary. They are described in the Standard Course Offerings and follow the FCPS Program of Studies. Students are required to attend the entire course. All courses are offered contingent on sufficient enrollment, staffing, and budget approval. These courses are not open to non-FCPS students, and all students who register must have a current FCPS IEP, and approval of their special education department chair.

Students with disabilities who register for general education courses must provide a copy of a current IE P to the classroom teacher to obtain necessary classroom and testing accommodations. Students who intend to enroll in a new course for credit acceleration must contact their special education department chair prior to the start of the summer session and arrange for an IEP addendum to add any necessary SOL accommodations.

Contact your local school for assistance with course selection. Call 703-227-8460 for general information.

Attendance Requirements
More than two cumulative days of absence, for any reason, from any high school course will result in the student’s withdrawal from summer school as outlined in FCPS Student Responsibilities and Rights (2601.P). Detailed information will be distributed to parents and students. Students must successfully complete course requirements to receive credit.

SOL Test Eligibility
SOL tests will be administered during the state mandated test dates. FCPS students in summer school SOL related face-to-face, online, and remediation courses may complete the associated SOL test upon completion of the summer school course.

Non-FCPS students in summer school SOL related face-to-face, online, and remediation courses may complete the associated SOL test if all of the following requirements are met:
• completion of the requirements for summer school registration
• completion of the summer school course
• enrollment in a Virginia public school

In addition, non-FCPS students with an IEP that includes test accommodations must send one copy of their current IEP to: Summer Services, 8115 Gatehouse Road, Suite 3451, Falls Church, VA 22042. They must provide a second copy to their classroom teacher on the first day of class to obtain necessary support.

Important Note: “Term Graduates” refers to seniors scheduled to graduate by August 31, 2008. Only Fairfax County Public Schools term graduates are eligible to participate in the Test-Only program.

Transportation
Transportation is provided only within the assigned summer school attendance area for all Fairfax County students. However, bus stops are not the same as those during the school year. Buses pick up and drop off students at an elementary, middle, or high school within the summer school attendance area. The summer school principal will provide bus stop information to students who register by June 24.

Food Services
Students can purchase sandwiches, chef salads, pizza, and snack items during lunch at a la carte prices. Vending service will also be available.

Registration
Register early. Classes fill quickly. Registration begins May 12 and ends June 24 or when courses reach capacity.

To ensure proper course placement, a signature is required from a high school counselor, ESOL teacher, or special education department chair (or school representative) on registration Form A or Form C. Incomplete registrations will be returned to the parent or guardian and may delay or prevent registration if the deadline has passed. Acceptable forms of payment are money order, bank certified check, and Visa or MasterCard credit cards. Personal checks are not accepted.

Students who are not registered by June 24 will not be able to attend summer school.

Registration for Non-FCPS Students
Current non-FCPS students have additional registration requirements. Non-FCPS students with disabilities who wish to enroll in a general education course must provide to the classroom teacher a copy of a current IEP to access classroom or test accommodations.
