ADP Acting (collaborative course)*

Use improvisation and theatre games to develop as an actor while working on your audition skills and acting résumé. Discover opportunities for educational and professional development. Gain performance experience acting in original scenes written and directed by ADP Playwriting and ADP Directing classes. Experience the excitement of first-time theatre.

 

Makeup
Grades 7-8 (#IFT3612)

No audition required.
Color the face. Mold the nose. Change the eyes. Be a makeup artist! Learn the basics, and then design a scar, a wound, or a thrilling special effect.



ADP Directing (collaborative class)*
Grades 9-12 (#IFT3115)
No audition required.
Make your future directing projects a success. Learn techniques for developing strong actors, and create exciting stage pictures by moving actors in blocking patterns. Get first-hand experience by using scripts from the ADP Playwriting course and by directing actors from the ADP Acting course. Participate in the excitement of working with material never seen on stage. Students may be required to participate as actors in the productions.

 

Musical Theatre
Grades 7-8 (#IFT3712)

No audition required.
Sing, dance, and act material and scenes from famous musicals. Examine career opportunities for musical performers. Learn audition skills and how to write a rèsumè. Experience the musicals of the past and present. (Bring a self-selected monologue and song to practice.)



ADP Playwriting (collaborative class)*
Grades 10-12 (#IFT3216)
No audition required.
Create characters, conflicts, and settings, and then turn them into scripts. Examine methods and sources for getting published. Collaborate with actors and directors to fine tune your work. This course is a rare opportunity to see original scenes come alive when performed and directed by ADP Acting and ADP Directing students. Students may be required to participate as actors in the productions.

 

Musical Theatre II

Audition required.
Master advanced musical theatre skills. Strengthen singing, dancing, and acting skills. Step into the world of the triple threat, and investigate what makes a musical theatre performer successful.


Acting
Grades 7-8 (#IFT3312)

Speak the language and choose the moves that create a character on stage. Make your voice heard and understood. Use improvisation, scripts, and theatre games to develop an actor’s tool box. Work on audition material and presentation. Learn to take the stage with confidence and style.

 

Stage Combat I

How do the slap, the fall, and the fight look so real on stage? Find out by learning the fundamentals of safe, hand-to-hand combat in performance.






Acting II
Grades 10-12 (#IFT4216)
Prerequisite: IFTA Acting 9-12 or 9th grade Theatre Arts I
No audition required.
Designed for the serious acting student. Master the skills of selecting audition materials, scene work, and auditioning. Learn how to strengthen voice, movement, and characterization.

 

Stage Combat II
Grades 8-12 (#IFT3854)
Prerequisite: IFTA Stage Combat I.
No audition required.
Behold the dagger and the sword. An advanced course where students expand stage fighting and stage weaponry techniques.

Acting for Film and Television
Grades 9-12 (#IFT3415)
No audition required.
Explore the techniques of acting for the camera. Commercial, soap opera, and film scripts will be used for student scenes. Students will be filmed doing scene work. The instructor will provide critiques.

 

Storytelling
Grades 7-12 (#IFT3511)
No audition required.
Learn the art of storytelling. Develop the skills of using facial expressions, gestures and the narrative voice to create distinct, exciting characters in solo performances.

Acting Shakespeare
Grades 10-12 (#IFT3416)
No audition required.
Learn to speak, move, and characterize in the style of the "Bard." Play the clown or the villain, the king or the queen. "Suit the action to the word and the word to the action." Learn about opportunities to study, experience, and perform Shakespeare's comedies, histories, and tragedies.

 

Theatre Sports

Learn the skills of improv. Use your imagination to design and mix and match characters, plots, props, and scenes. Play the most spontaneous games in theatre.


Theatre Audition Techniques (new for 2008)

Learn how to have an effective (successful) audition! Students will engage in the process of perfecting their audition skills. Choosing pieces, timing, structure, and introductions will be covered.

 

 

Video Editing (new for 2008)
Grades 9-12 (#IFT4119)
Prerequisite: Previous editing experience.
No audition required.
This course allows students with previous editing experience to have in-depth instruction in computer digital editing. Students MUST bring 2-3 hours of previously taped digital material to be used in class (mini DV tapes or digital hard drive.) Learn how to turn raw footage into a complete film. This is an editing class only; no footage will be filmed as part of the class.

Comedia Dell’Arte (new for 2008)
Grades 9-12 (#IFT3430)
No audition required.
Enjoy this classical acting style rooted in the Italian Renaissance. Learn the art of creating stock characters and comic scenarios. The class is intended for the advanced theatre student interested in stylized performance techniques.

 

Videography I

Creating Original Theatrical Works (new for 2008)
Grades 9-12 (#IFT3435)
No audition required.
Students work together to create their own original piece through energetic physical acting. Replacing pen and paper, students will “write” on their own feet through image work, storytelling, and improvisation to create original work inspired by personal interests. Students develop necessary skills in ensemble work, character formation, and acting techniques.

Capture your great ideas. Create fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Participate in critique sessions. Explore writing professions.

 

 

Videography II

Prerequisite: IFTA Videography I or project review by instructor during audition night.
The course builds on skills learned in IFTA Videography I. Students must have 2-3 hours of a student made documentary or visual essay style production. Students must provide their own mini-DV camera.

Creative Writing II
Grades 10-12 (#IFT3516)
No audition required.
Become a novelist, a poet, a journalist. Participate in critique sessions. Explore the world of the professional author.

 

William Shakespeare
Grades 7-9 (#IFT4513)
No audition required.
Speak the language of Shakespeare’s characters. Visit the Elizabethan world of cloak and dagger and of mystery and romance. Play the characters who plot and plan in Shakespeare’s comedies and tragedies.
