New Offering: Blueprint Reading for the Trades
Intensive work with complete sets of prints includes: lines, symbols, basic views, plan details, construction contract documents and specifications, working and shop drawings, foundation work, wall and roof structures, reinforced concrete, masonry, structural steel, finish carpentry, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural integrity, and air conditioning systems.
This course will meet requirements of Electricity, Level 3 for Virginia state registered apprentices.

The Virginia Registered Apprenticeship is a training system that produces highly skilled workers to meet the demands of employers competing in a global economy, through a combination of on-the-job training and theoretical classroom instruction. It is a win-win approach to workforce development for more than 13,000 apprentices throughout the Commonwealth.
The Virginia Registered Apprenticeship currently meets the needs of approximately 2,000 Virginia sponsors who use custom designed programs to train their employees in a variety of occupations, ranging from high tech to highly skilled trades.

New ~ Professional Series Classes
Apprenticeship is pleased to announce the expansion of our program into project management courses for the construction industry. Each 3 hour class meets once a week for five weeks. The Professional Series curriculum provides an overview of the responsibilites and characteristics of a project manager along with an understanding of the flow of a construction project. Move beyond your trade training and expand your marketability in this growing industry.
Construction
AP08110 Safety
Course stresses the importance of job-site safety and identifies the project manager's duties and responsibilities regarding safety. Curriculum covers loss prevention and creating a zero-accident work environment. Includes several checklists as references.
AP08113 Construction Documents
Course emphasizes the importance of documentation and explains the types of documents, drawings, and specifications used on a project. Provides an explanation of methods of obtaining work in the industry and types of contracts and insurance requirements. It describes the change order process and the documents required to close out a project.
AP08115 Estimating and Cost Control
Course emphasizes the importance of accurate estimating and summarizes the estimating process and the steps in developing an estimate. It defines the purpose of a cost control methodology, explains how to perform simple cost analysis, and covers the project manager's role in controlling cost and tracking rework cost.
AP08116 Scheduling
Course provides instruction in the basics of scheduling from simple-to-do lists through bar charts, network diagrams and methods of managing resources. It discusses the importance of formal schedules, job planning, and establishing priorities. It describes alternative scheduling methods.
Online Opportunities
Additional online courses related to construction safety are available. These courses are supplemental to any apprenticeship coursework.
