Credit by Objective Program
The CBO program provides students with alternative options for finishing their high school coursework (credits). Pre-approval is required. The program is only available to Fairfax County residents who are 18 or older and only enrolled at Woodson Adult High School.
The mission of the Credit by Objective program is to support Woodson Adult High School by providing additional credit-earning options, which capitalize on students' interests, learning styles, creativity, and critical thinking skills while fulfilling Fairfax County Public Schools Standards of Learning requirements.
What is it?
Independent study is:
- Self-paced and flexible
- Individualized to your interests and schedule
- Based on papers, projects, research and activities (no tests)
What is required?
- Weekly or biweekly advisor meetings
- Proposal/learning contract which meets content guidelines and reflects your interests
- Regular completion of work
- Reading and writing skills high enough to succeed
What subjects are available?
- English, social studies, job experience and career exploration, and other electives

What is it?
Correspondence is:
- Self-paced
- Structured
- Based on textbook reading, unit tests and assignments, and final exams
What is required?
- Correspondence fees paid per subject
- At least one unit test mailed per month and calls to the advisor every three weeks
- Final examinations worth 50% of final grade
- Reading and writing skills high enough to succeed
What subjects are available?
- English, social studies, math, and electives (including psychology, sociology, child care, economics, automotive, and more)

What is it?
College dual enrollment is:
- A challenging option that allows you to take college classes and earn high school and college credit at the same time
What is required?
- Permission from the guidance counselor
- Signed permission forms prior to registering
- All college placement tests passed
- Two semesters of each course required to earn one high school credit

- English 12, electives, some social studies courses (Other courses available by special permission)

- College independent study through the Extended Learning Institute at NOVA
- FCPS online courses in approved subjects offered each semester
- Elective credit for approved job licenses with skills demonstration and assessment
- FCPS Alternative high school day and evening classes in Tyson's Corner, Centreville, or Alexandria
