English for the Workplace
Statistics from the U.S. Department of Commerce indicate that limited English and poor basic skills of employees are taking a toll on the corporate bottom line. Since Northern Virginia is a cultural mixing bowl, English may not be the first language of many current and potential employees. Our qualified staff can design training tailored to your specific needs and deliver it to your employees at your facility.

English for the Workplace offers resources for managing a diverse workplace and job-related English instruction to speakers of other languages.

  • Practical, job-related English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
  • Communication strategies for supervisors of workers with limited English
  • Computer readiness for speakers of other languages
  • Customized instruction for immediate results
  • Instructional strategies for new job training
  • Written business English for ESOL Employees

Trade and Industry
Trade & Industry and Apprenticeship programs provide short refresher workshops on specific skill sets and more extensive topics, such as blueprint reading, the NEC review, and basic plumbing for maintenance crews.

Employers are encouraged to view the complete listing of Apprentice and Trade and Industry courses and contact us to discuss your company's needs.

Wellness Training
Provide preventive care strategies and practical information in order to reduce health-related costs for both employees and the company. Our customized wellness training offerings can complement your company’s benefits package as part of your new employee orientation as wellness workshops, or as a corporate health day.

Spanish for the Workplace

Become more productive and efficient when working with employees and customers. Workplace Spanish® programs are a non-academic approach to learning bite-size terms and phrases that you can use on your job. Through repetition, role-play, and in-class practice, you can achieve your goal to learn a “little Spanish” to better serve customers, improve teamwork and productivity, and reduce frustration in the workplace.

Workplace Spanish® can make you an effective communicator by learning the language unique to your industry.

Coaching Education Training

The FCPS Student Activities and Athletic Program office is revising the structure of the education program for coaches. Please stay in touch with the Director of Student Activities at the school where you coach for information on upcoming classes and options for completing the education requirements.

Workplace Training Team Honored with Team Excellence Award

Workplace Training developed and provided the ESOL curriculum and instruction for the North County ESOL CDL bus driver training team that is being honored with the Team Excellence Award. A multi-agency effort, this 20-week training program was developed to address a critical shortage of FCPS bus drivers and to provide employment opportunities to low income members of the non-English speaking community.

ACE-Workplace Training in collaboration with FCPS Transportation Services, Fairfax County Department of Human Services, The Northern Virginia Workforce Investment Board, and Grace Ministries of Floris United Methodist Church developed and carried out the pilot program. The Team Excellence Award, awarded by Fairfax County Government, recognizes the efforts of various groups and agencies that work jointly on a common project.
