Established in 1975, the Volunteer Learning Program provides tutoring services to adult learners. Sponsored jointly by Fairfax County Public Schools Office of Adult & Community Education, Fairfax County Juvenile Court, and the Fairfax County Public Library System, it is a tutorial program designed to meet the needs of Fairfax County adults who desire to improve their reading, writing, and mathematics skills and/or obtain their high school credentials. These adult learners are often enrolled in studies leading to a GED or a high school diploma.
Do you need a tutor?
- For adults 18 years of age and older
- A tutor can meet you in a public library to work with you individually and
at your own pace.
- You can work towards finishing high school and improving your reading, writing, or math.
- The tutors are volunteers, and they are trained to help you with your skills.
- We have the books and materials for you to use with your tutor.
- To get started, call 703-246-2139. There is a $10 registration fee – the tutoring is free.
Would you like to be a tutor?
Got an hour or two a week? Make a difference in someone’s life! Become a tutor with the Volunteer Learning Program (VLP). Tutor adult learners one-on-one in libraries, in classes, or in small group settings close to your home or work. Help adult learners improve reading, writing, and math skills to obtain a high school diploma or GED. You may also work with adolescent learners in alternative high school settings. Daytime or evening tutoring opportunities are available. Training and materials are provided. See how an hour or two a week can make a huge difference in your community! Call 703.246.2139.
