Classroom Driver Education

Classroom driver education analyzes tasks an individual must perform while operating a motor vehicle. Units about alcohol safety, drug abuse awareness, aggressive driving, distracted driving, motorcycle awareness, and organ and tissue donation awareness are included.

Twelve 3-hour sessions - $180

• July 1 - 17, Herndon HS, 8-11am
• July 6 - 21, McLean HS, 2-5pm
• July 6 - 21, Chantilly HS, 8-11am
• July 6 - 21, Plum Center-Edsall Road, 8-11am and 11:30-2:30pm
• July 22 - August 6, Lake Braddock SS, 3-6pm

Nine 4-hour sessions - $180

• June 22 - July 2, McLean HS, 2-6pm

Behind the Wheel Driver Training Schedule

Seven 2-hour sessions - $280
Lessons cover vehicle control skills and driving in residential, rural, and city/freeway settings. DMV approved road test will be administered. Students must have completed classroom driver education or be enrolled in the classroom phase with FCPS prior to the first behind the wheel class. This course is required for licensing until the age of 19. Courses meet for seven school days and depart from most high schools.

We strongly suggest that students complete the first seven chapters of the 45-hour parent/teen driving guide before coming to the first Behind the Wheel class. Download the 45-Hour Parent/Teen Driving Guide (printer friendly).

The student's Virginia learner’s permit number is required at the time of registration. Proof of classroom enrollment must be presented at the first class.

Non-FCPS student registration requirements
Fairfax County residents enrolled in private schools and home-schooled students may register for driver education during the summer session only. Students must meet all qualifications for public school enrollment.

The following documentation is required for registration:

• birth certificate
• physical examination (within one year)
• evidence of immunization
• current proof of county residency (mortgage/deed or lease agreement)
• previous education program (example any 2007-08 school report card)
• affirmation for SS/SE-219
