Instructor Wins Award
ACE Culinary Arts instructor Kay Karim received the Gourmand World Cookbook Award 2007 in London on April 13, 2008 for her cookbook, Iraqi Family Cookbook: From Mosul to America. Volunteer Learning Program Honored
The Volunteer Learning Program (VLP) received Fairfax County's 2008 volunteer service award for Outstanding Volunteer Program. The VLP recruits and trains volunteers to tutor adults in the academic skills necessary to obtain a high school diploma or GED and to improve reading, writing, and math skills.

Apprentice Receives Award from Governor Kaine
Danitra Daniels, a recent graduate of the ACE apprenticeship program, was recognized by Gov. Timothy M. Kaine as one of Virginia's outstanding apprentices in a ceremony in Richmond. Completing all four levels of apprenticeship-related instruction with distinction in May 2007, she is now an ACE instructor teaching an HVAC class at the location where she was an apprentice. One person can make a difference! The Volunteer Learning Program, operating through Adult and Community Education,
Fairfax County Juvenile Court, and the Fairfax County Public Library System,
assists adult learners in
improving their reading, writing, and mathematics skills and/or obtaining their high school credentials.
With the support of a dedicated tutor, these students grow intellectually and gain confidence in themselves and the goals they can achieve.
