Teachers needing to add endorsement(s):

  1. Send a signed and dated letter to the licensure office requesting the addition of the endorsement(s) to their teaching licenses, include any official transcript(s) and supporting documents i.e., course descriptions or syllabi.

If the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) finds…

  1. All of the required coursework, the teacher is issued a license with the new endorsement(s).
  2. No more than 6 semester hours (2 courses) deficiency, the teacher is issued a provisional license* with the new endorsement(s) and is given time to complete the courses. (Provisional license requirements expected to change by VDOE between 2007 and 2009)
  3. More than 6 semester hours (2 courses) deficiency, the teacher should use the official VDOE evaluation document to meet with their preferred college or university course work advisors to map out and complete coursework to lower their deficiency down to no more than 6 semester hours deficiency to become eligible to add the suitable endorsement for their teaching assignment(s).  At that point, the teacher will need to send their signed and dated letter with their official transcripts attached to the licensure office to request the addition of the endorsement(s).

Please send requests via pony mail or postal mail to the Licensure Office, Department of Human Resources, Gatehouse Administration Center I, 8115 Gatehouse Road, Falls Church, VA 22042.

Remember to include your FCPS ID number on your documents.
