Prerequisite--Special Education Minimum Competency

Virginia Department of Education’s Special Education Minimum Competency is met by a teacher who completed coursework in which:

1. the characteristics or foundations component is satisfied by providing an overview of all types of disabilities and
2. the legal/ethical aspects component involves laws, legislation, legal matters relevant to individuals with all types of disabilities.
