Basic and Other Important Teacher Licensure Information
New Requirements - Effective Sept. 21, 2007
- Add Additional Endorsements to 5-yr Professional License Via Passing Applicable Praxis II (limited to specific license types and endorsements)
- Full-time Contracted Prek-12 Teaching Experience In A State Other Than VA for Waiving Praxis II, VCLA, and VRA Increased from 2 to 3 Years
- License Renewal Point Options Reduce from 10 to 8
- Middle Education 6-8 Reduces to Single Subject Endorsement – English, Math, Science or H&SS
- New Endorsement – Mathematics Specialist for ES and MS levels
Continuing Requirements
- 4 Requirements for Proper Licensure and Retaining your Full-time Contracted FCPS Instructional or Pupil Personnel Services Position
- ACTFL for foreign language teachers
- Additional Salary Request
- Administration and Supervision prek-12 endorsement requirements
- Alternative Route to Teacher Licensure
- Child Abuse Recognition and Intervention (CARI) Certificate. It applies to both new applicants and renewals of licenses.
- Current list of FCPS Title I school-wide and targeted SUM/SULA schools
- FCPS Licensure Assistant Assigned to Full-Time Contracted Instructional Employees
- Licensure Exam Requirements Update – VCLA, VRA and/or Praxis II (if applicable)
- Passing Praxis II for specific teaching areas requirement for applicable provisional or conditional license holders
- School Leaders Licensure Assessment (SLLA) requirement for school-based administration and supervision
- Special Education Conditional License Requirements
- SPED Highly Qualified (HQ)
- Technology Standards Certificate. It applies to both new applicants and renewals of licenses.
- Title I schoolwide and targeted SUM/SULA Instructional Personnel/Teachers MUST meet No Child Left Behind (NCLB) standards
- Title I schoolwide Instructional Assistants (IAs) MUST meet No Child Left Behind (NCLB) standards
- VDOE approved agencies for obtaining official U.S. degree equivalency evaluation of foreign credential(s)
- Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA). It will replace Praxis I effective January 1, 2006
- Virginia Reading Assessment (VRA) for new teachers--limited categories
