New COBRA Provision
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, enacted on February 17, 2009, allows former FCPS employees who were or are involuntarily terminated between September 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009, to request premium assistance for their temporary health insurance coverage under COBRA.  The law gives “Assistance Eligible Individuals” the right to pay reduced COBRA premiums for periods of coverage beginning on or after February 17, 2009 and can last up to 9 months.  For more information regarding COBRA premium reduction, please contact FCPS Office of Benefit Services at 571-423-3200, option 3.
