Did you know that Cunningham Park Elementary School offers our children a wealth of technology resources? Our school has a secure wireless network for staff and students, for example, we have two mobile labs with 16 laptops in each. Teachers use these and the stationary computer lab to enrich their regular lessons with current technology. Recently fourth graders emailed questions about life at Jamestown to scholars working there. We were thrilled when we received their detailed answers the next day.
Teachers also use FCPS 24/7 Learning to extend their classrooms outside the walls of Cunningham Park. FCPS 24/7 (also known as Blackboard) offers parents a way to communicate with their children’s teachers, to stay current with what’s going on in the classroom and to access resources that teachers have identified as especially worthwhile. Our library Blackboard site, for example, has links to online subscription databases that students can use for online research. There are links to the Grolier and World Book Encyclopedias and other searchable databases as well. These are great resources for student research since their information has been subjected to fact checking and editing; the same cannot be said for all the information one might find using a Google search!
Other teacher Blackboard sites offer class photo albums, samples of student work, discussion boards and links to sites teachers either use in their classrooms or recommend. While we’re always looking for ways to upgrade our technology, we’re excited about the great things already going on at Cunningham Park!
Use FCPS 24-7 Learning to access BlackBoard for homework, assignments, and more.
