From the Principal
Due to the current economic challenges facing
the state and county, Fairfax County Public Schools once again
are facing a significant budget shortfall of approximatley
$176 million for FY 2011, which begins in July 2010.
As a result, the School Board and Leadership Team are looking
closely at programs and services that may need to be reduced,
redesigned, or eliminated during the next budget year.
Dr. Dale recently presented to the Fairfax County
School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors an
overview of the schools' budget situation and shared the potential
impact to programs that may be at risk for major cuts without
additional revenue from the County to help us meet the anticipated
shortfall. You may view this presentation at http://www.fcps.edu/news/fy2011/fiscalforecast93009bos.pdf.
As a result of the hard work of our talented
and dedicated staff and our positive partnership with you,
our supportive community, we have continued to make gains
in academic achievement despite the many cuts made in this
current year's budget (FY2010 which included class size increases,
salary freezes for staff, and significant reductions in custodial
and clerical staffing). With a $176 million deficit
projected for next year, programs such as full day kndergarten,
FLES, strings and band, and the support from the School-Based
Technology Specialist (SBTS) may be at-risk in addition to
salary freezes and further increases in class size.
FCPS needs your active feedback and input in
these next few months. Visit http://www.fcps.edu/news/fy2011.htm
