An Overview of the Safety Patrol Program
at Crestwood

Group of Patrols

We have the most enthusiastic bunch of safety patrols in Fairfax County! Crestwood has 30 safety patrols from the fifth and sixth grades. The primary aims of the patrols are:

* To help children cross streets safely on their way to and from school.
* To help children become safe pedestrians.
* To foster qualities of leadership and good citizenship in patrol members.

School Safety Patrol membership is an honored position. Many boys and girls have served since the organization was created in 1926. Since then, the casualty record among children aged 5-14 has improved significantly. Patrols have played an important role in this achievement.

Patrols shoulder responsibilities that will strengthen character and provide opportunity to help fellow students develop a better understanding of pedestrian and vehicular traffic hazards.

Crestwood is very proud to be the home of last year’s AAA Patroller of the year.

Patrols should be at school, lined up and ready for roll call at 8:10 A.M.

The patrols meet on the second Wednesday of each month with Officer Thomas and Mr. Magee, at 12:30 p.m. They discuss problems and solutions to daily situations. Patrols also discuss better ways to perform their duties through informative training with Officer Thomas from the Fairfax County Police.

Two or more students are nominated monthly for Patrol of the Month. The recipients of this award must have outstanding attendance and fulfill their duties in an exemplary fashion. Students are honored with a golden badge for earning Patrol of the Month.

We are very proud of our dedicated patrols here at Crestwood!
