JOURNALISM

Grade: 7, 8
Students learn basic publication and journalism skills focusing on writing articles and designing layouts for a newspaper, ye arbook, and literary magazine.
Students are active members of the student run magazine, The Hawkeye. Students disuss currrent even ts, write articles, learn basic photography and layout design. This class is a
prerequisite for Yearbook and Broadcast Journalism.

ADVANCED JOURNALISM YEABOOK

36 weeks (year)
Grade: 8
Prerequisite: Success ful completion of the selection procedures including recommendations
Successful completion of a journalism class in grade 7
Students are introduced to basic publication skills as they oversee the yearbook from start to finish. Components of this course include designing the sales campaigns,
managing accounts, computer planning/designing, copy writing, layout design, photography, developing skills and organization. Each student has personal input and
responsibility. Analysis of publications and the study of journalism as a career are incorporat ed. Activities will also include assist ing with the planning, writing, and
layout of the school newspaper and literary magazine.
