Art Club (Mon)

If you’ve got creativity then this is the club for you! We will be working on a variety of art activities during the 8-week course.

Drama Productions

Ms. Baber and Ms. Becker

Fall play and spring musical.  Auditions are required for acting parts.  There are also opportunities for stage crew.

One-Act Plays

Ms. Baber and Ms. Becker

Student directed one-act plays with students from Langley.  There will be auditions.

Theatre Sports Team (Mon)

Work on improve games such as those seen on Whose Line is it Anyway. Compete against other schools Auditions required.

Scrapbooking Club

Instruction in techniques to document and preserve school, family, and other memories.

Show Choir / Vocal Jazz (select Mon and Thurs)

Advanced singers/dancers will perform pop songs with fun choreography! A mini audition is required.

Comic Book (Wed)

Make new friends! Explore your favorite comics including anime and manga.  Create a comic book for the Columbia University Comic Book Project.

Knitting (Select Thurs)

LEARN HOW TO KNIT!  A class for beginning knitters (knitters with experience are also welcome to attend - contact Ms. Choi re: projects). By the end of the class, you’ll make a winter scarf!

Talent Show (winter)

Show off your best talent in front of your friends! Students will perform at a night performance on 2/22/08.

Explore several different styles of expressive movement while developing strength, balance, and flexibility. You will gain understanding and appreciation for music function, spatial perception, coordination, and confidence.

College Partnership Program (CPP) (every other Mon)

This county-wide program helps you learn the truth about college. We focus on developing leaders, setting goals, stress management, and interests. Some will get to represent Cooper countywide.

Community Service Club (Mon)

Ms. Nguy, and Ms. McKeveny

Make a difference in your local, national, and international communities. Service projects will be determined based on students’ interest. Students can meet their civics service requirements.

Student Council Association (SCA) (select Mon)

Made up of the elected Officers and Representatives from 1st block. The SCA sponsors numerous activities during the school year which include school and community projects.

Mobile Team   Challenge (MTC) (every other Wed)

Mrs. Granger, Mr. Staroscik and Ms.   Sienkiewicz

Experiential learning that challenges students to solve a problem together. It is positive, outcome-focused learning with fun and engaging activities that allow students to develop communication skills, cooperation, problem solving skills and leadership.

Breaking Boundaries (select Thurs)

This is an 8th grade only, year long leadership opportunity which students will apply for. This club will focus on student climate and ways to increase tolerance and respect.

Mentoring

Be a mentor for 3rd and 4th graders! Plan and implement mini-camps for Churchill students. Learn how to be a good mentor.

Odyssey of the Mind

PTA

Do you like to build, write scripts, make sets, and find original solutions to challenging problems?  Then join a team for Odyssey of the Mind and represent Cooper at the regional competition.

High school tutors will provide academic support to Cooper students.

You can complete homework, work on tests, and get started on projects. High school students will be available to help you.  There are no late buses on Tues, so students must be picked up by 5:45.

Math Counts (Wed)

Are you a Mathlete? If so, then you need to represent Cooper on our competitive math team in local competitions.

Journalism Club (Wed)

Offered to current Journalism students: Continue your involvement in your class publications after school! Photography, writing and fun!

Cooper Deutsch Verein (German Society) (Wed)

Mr. Rademacher

Opportunities to practice German and partake in activities. The Langley German Honor Society and the Deutsch Verein Langley will provide individual tutoring.

Saving  Nature Club (Thurs)

Mr. Conroy and McLean Trees Foundation

Have a great time in your backyard learning about nature, create a project to enhance the school, and become a teacher about important ways to save nearby nature.

Games Galore! (Thurs 6 sessions in fall)

Enjoy the company of your peers and the challenges of games like Scrabble, Monopoly, Cranium, and Taboo.  Share strategies and tips and think “outside of the box.”

Spelling Bee (Thurs)

Coaching for the school-wide spelling bee and beyond. Winners will compete at the county level for a chance at going to the national bee.

Student / Parent Book Club

Join the Cooper Parent/Child Book Club! This is an opportunity to read high interest books and discuss them with your friends and parents!

CSI Cooper (15 session in spring)

Be a crime scene investigator. Use forensic science to follow the clues and collect the evidence to solve the mystery.

Intramural Sports (Thurs)

Mr. Belli

Participate in a variety of sports with a team of your friends. Possible sports are ultimate Frisbee, basketball, soccer, and flag football. You can register a team or sign up as a free agent and be placed on a team.

Open Gym (Mon)

Mr. Belli

This is your chance to play pick-up basketball games with your friends. Other sports may be offered as well.

Tennis Club    (Mon, Wed)

Ms. Fisher and Mrs. Riccardi

For all levels of players. Come play games and have fun! You need to bring your own racket and extra tennis balls.

Running Club   (Mon, Wed, Thurs)

Mrs. Kenny

Training off campus for local 5K races. Teachers, students and parents are all welcome. Bring shirts and water bottles. Weight training will be implemented as well.

Squash Club (Tues)

Mrs. Weis and Regency Sport and Health Club

Learn to play squash by a trained professional who will bring the best out of you. Registration and a commitment are required. Held at Regency Sport and Health Club.

Weightlifting / Fitness (Mon and Wed)

Ms. Magnuson

Have the opportunity to work with personal trainer, Ms. Magnuson, in a group setting to learn about lift weights and fitness to help you become a more fit individual. Offered as part of the running club.

Golf (Wed)

Mr. Carter

Learn the fundamentals of golf including grip, stance/posture, and full swing.

Badminton (Wed)

Mr. Carter

Learn the proper way to strike the birdie and play singles and doubles.

Additional clubs and after-school activities will be added throughout the year.  Listen to the afternoon announcements for specific dates for the clubs and how to sign up.

If you have ideas for a club or activity, share them with Mrs. Weis in Room 100-A.

The program runs October through June
on the following schedule:
Mon- (Clubs & Academic Help) 3:30pm late bus
Tues- (Clubs & Special Activities) parent pick-up
Wed- (Clubs & Academic Help) 4:15pm late bus
Thurs- (Clubs) 4:15pm late bus
Fri- (Special Activities) parent pick-up


These days and times will only be available when activities are scheduled to take place.  Some activities will require students to sign up ahead of time and will require a commitment to attend all sessions. Contact the activity sponsor for details on specific activities.
The After-School Program is made possible by funds from the School Board and the Board of Supervisors along with support from the Dept of Community and Recreation Services, the Safe Community Coalition, other community partners, the FCPS After-School Program Office, and Cooper Middle School teachers, administrators, staff, parents, students and PTA.
