Band
The Clermont Band consists of about fifty 5th and 6th grade students. During the year the band puts on two performances which showcases what they have learned during the year.
Chorus
The Clermont chorus is made up of 4 th, 5 th and 6 th grade students who love to sing. The chorus meets for rehearsal for approximately one hour a week and occasionally has rehearsals after school. The Clermont Elementary School Chorus is directed by Mrs. Hill.
Chorus students learn many singing skills. These include the ability to use singing posture and breathing techniques to support vocal production, to identify vocal anatomy including the function of the diaphragm and the larynx in singing, to use breathing exercises during vocal warm-ups, to develop accurate intonation and beauty of tone in singing, to demonstrate knowledge of terminology related to producing a vocal tone, to perform music in unison and harmony with and without accompaniment, to read music of varying styles and levels of difficulty, to develop the ability to sing independently, and to work together as a cooperative group.
The chorus will perform a Winter Concert and a Spring Concert for the school and community. Additional performances off school grounds will be planned for each semester.
If you are interested in joining chorus, please speak to Mrs. Hill
Key Club
The Key Club is off to a great start this year. As usual we will do our service projects which include helping decorate for the Thanksgiving Luncheon, choosing the theme and decorating for the Volunteer Dance and visiting a nursing home for Valentine's Day. This year we are offering students an opportunity to focus their efforts in an area that interests them personally. After surveying the members, we found that there were three areas that the students were interested in: caring for the environment; caring for animals, and homelessness. Students were able to choose the area they would like to focus on. The students seem excited as they begin developing plans of how they can make a difference.
The Key Club offers our fifth and sixth grade students an opportunity to participate in a service club. The main focus of the Key Club is to do volunteer activities for the school, P.T.A, and the community.
We meet once a month during the school day. Last year and in previous years we became involved in several service activities, including the following:
- Helping set up for the Thanksgiving Luncheon
- Cleaning up the school grounds
- Decorating for the Clermont Volunteer Dance
- Running a drive to collect items for needy families
- Making posters for PTA activities
- Visiting and making Valentine’s Day cards for nursing home residents
Specific projects are determined by what the Key Club members are interested in. Middle and High school students in Fairfax County Public Schools are required to do community service projects. The Key Club is a great way to help children learn about volunteerism.
SCA
The SCA is selling candy grams for a fund raiser again this year. The officers and representatives will be selling Candy Grams between 8:05-8:20 in the gym from Feb. 9-13. The cost is $1.00. Candy Grams are small cards with a lollipop attached. Candy Grams will not take the place of anything the class might be doing in the classroom to celebrate Valentines Day. They are just a fun "extra" for those who would like to participate. Candy Grams will be delivered each day at lunchtime in the cafeteria. What a fun way to let your friend (or teacher) know you care!
While supplies last!

Strings
Fairfax County offers instruction in violin, viola, cello and bass in all of its schools starting in 4th grade and continuing through 12th grade. Instruction takes place during the school day. At Clermont classes are on Tuesdays. Students may sign up in September and classes continue until their final concert which takes place in late May or early June. 2nd and 3rd year students may participate in an Area Orchestra and Solo and Ensemble festival. Clermont string students have their own blackboard page with links to Smartmusic files and Finale Performance Assessment files that help them learn their music.
Patrols
The Clermont patrol force is made up of 5 th and 6 th grade students and the patrol sponsors are Ms. Mulcahy, and Mr. Rains. The Clermont students who make up the safety patrol team exhibit strong qualities of leadership, citizenship, trustworthiness, and dependability.
The Clermont patrols are responsible for keeping Clermont students safe while they cross the street and ride the bus. The Clermont patrols understand that safety comes first for all students. The job of a Clermont patrol is very important and is taken very seriously.
There are two types of patrols at Clermont. These include walking patrols, and bus patrols. Walking patrols police the walking areas and make sure students cross the streets and walk to school safely. Bus patrols make sure students are safe getting on the bus and off the bus. They also monitor student behavior during the bus ride. Bus patrols also assist in bus evacuations.
The Clermont Patrols have meetings monthly with the patrol sponsors.
If you have any questions about patrols, please contact Ms. Mulcahy for more information.
News Team
WCSN is a daily news show produced by 6th grade students. There are five positions - engineer, co-anchor, anchor, camera, and director. Students selected to participate will spend about 2 weeks at each position. Everyone gets the opportunity to work the equipment, be on air, and direct the show. Each morning the Clermont day begins with the news which include the moment of silence, Pledge of Allegiance, lunch, birthdays, information about school events, and guests from other grades or clubs with announcements.
