Rosa Parks, an African
American woman, grew up in Montgomery, Alabama. During her
childhood, black people in the south had to follow rules and
laws that didn't allow them to do the same things as white
people. Rosa thought that these rules were not fair. One
day, after work, Rosa decided to ride the bus home. When a
white man got on the bus and asked her to give him her seat,
she refused which was against the law, and she was arrested.
Other African Americans in the city decided to boycott, or
refuse to ride on, the buses. After more than a year, the
Supreme Court finally decided that it was unfair to make
black people give up their seats, and they changed the law.
Rosa Parks is known for having the courage to stand up for
what she believed in. She proved that one person can make a
really big difference!
