Weather Map of the World with Webcam Links!

(Please note - webcams are not managed by FCPS, nor endorsed by FCPS. However, I have checked
many times to ensure safe images for students.)

Here are some ideas of what you can do with this weather map and webcams:

1) Predict what the weather will be like in the coming days/weeks at a particular country or continent

2) Graph varioius statistics from each of the sites

3) Predict what you will see in the camera based on the world radar image

4) Discuss lightness and darkness and how it relates around the world

5) Discuss opposing summers and winters

6) Track the various seasons around the world

7) Journal write (or use the Blog feature in 24-7 Learning - Blackboard) about what you see in the various cameras

8) Discuss conditions around the equator, prime meridian, and tropics of Cancer and Capricorn

9) Discuss the concept of time zones

10) Check out this KML file that opens in Google Earth (see below for download) - there are many webcams around
the world that are updated pictures (these are not streaming video, still cool though!)

11) You can also navigate around the Fisgonia.com website, and utilize their Google Maps mashup to cruise around
the world and view their cams via the Internet: http://www.fisgonia.com/

12) GREAT interactive weather site! http://www.weatherbonk.com/weather/ allows you to find your area, current temps,
webcams in the area, radar images, etc.

13) Holiday Weather Report; 4th through 6th Grade students could produce a 1-page, weather report (in Microsoft Publisher, to include pictures, etc.) indigenous of the webcam they are following. (Thanks to Nicole Cassidy and Jonathon Magwire)
